Both CDT and EDT are daylight-saving clocks used in the United States during summer. They run in parallel but one hour apart:

• CDT (Central Daylight Time) — UTC −5 — Chicago, Houston, Dallas
• EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) — UTC −4 — New York, Atlanta, Miami

EDT is exactly one hour ahead of CDT for the entire DST window (mid-March through early November). When you call New York from Chicago at 9 AM your time, it's already 10 AM there.
